It was a gorgeous day to be sure. Sometimes the breeze from the water can be so cold, especially when you’re sitting still, painting. Today was not like that!

It was a gorgeous, chilly day in late December at Willows Beach when I painted this. After awhile, two women came and sat in the chairs, and they talked together. I had a
the thought that the chairs were waiting for them to arrive.

When I sat down to paint this subdued landscape it seemed devoid of animal life. It was a very chilly day and even the birds seemed to be hiding. Until…I saw in the distance a pair of bald eagles. Clearly they had an excellent vantage point from which to hunt for lunch!

Sometimes I have to sit for some time before inspiration strikes. This day was like that. It was cold and a little dull out. I was grumpy! I stayed with the feelings and let Mother Nature work her magic on me. After about a half hour I felt moved to paint this Oregon Grape in all her glory!
